impossible things

alice

This is one of my favorite quotes; it just makes me smile when ever I read it.  I am not totally sure what it is but the idea that you can dream so big that others see it as impossible just inspires me.  What do you do to dream big?

Last weekend I was able to enjoy time with some awesome people that helped me get an idea about what I want to do with the rest of my life.  I was able to sit down and actually dream, and dream big.  It was so much fun thinking about the future and what it may hold.  My dreams change as I grow, but it was most enjoyable to dream big and then share my dreams with people who had no judgment; only encouragement and belief.

Are you dreaming big enough?  I am one of those people that like to dream big, but I then give myself 24 hours to complete that dream—crazy, oh yeah!  So I am going to try something new and encourage you all to do it as well - Dream big by making steps in the right direction. I have a dream to have a successful coaching practice, but in order to do that I need to become certified as a coach.  I need to remember the steps I am taking everyday to reach that goal.  Today I launched my website – andconfidence.com.  This is a huge step in the next part of my dream.

I challenge you all to dream big, and take the steps you need to achieve that dream.  Celebrate your successes as you reach your dream.  Life is about the final product, but enjoying the process along the way.

fill your cup

I had the most amazing weekend and am so lucky to have such awesome people in my life.  I realized this weekend how important it is to surround yourself with people who make you feel better about who you are.  Let me tell you a little story about how I got here.
A few years ago I had a friend that I really liked hanging out with, we would cook, and watch bad TV and just have a good time. After a few months the topic changed from talking about what we liked, to how much we hated our jobs.  I found that when I would hang out with her I would fall into the same mood and only see the bad things about my job, I would come home crabby and mad at the world.  It took me awhile but I eventually figured out that it was her attitude that was bringing me down.  I stopped hanging out with her as frequently and found that my attitude totally changed.
Who do you have in your life that makes you feel better about yourself?  Who are you surrounding yourself with that may be making your life harder than it needs to be?  I challenge you to take some time to look and who you are with and how the truly make you feel, and may be reevaluate who you want to send your time with.  Let me know who fills your cup, and who drains it.

geek in the pink

Do you ever have a song that just speaks to you, that you are sure was written for you.  Well I know that this song wasn't written for me, but the chorus is still one of my favorite songs.  It goes like this - "Don't judge me by my color, confuse it for another, you might regret what you let slip away, like the geek in the pink."

Mr. Jason Mraz wrote this song and it is one of my favorite songs to jam to.  My favorite color is pink and our society has made conclusions about people who like pink- girls can only like pink, if you like pink you must like barbie, or pink is only for little girls.  I like pink because it makes me happy, and I know that some people will judge me because of that, but they are missing out on me because they are letting something get in the way of getting to know me.

My challenge to you is to find a song that speaks to you, and make it your theme song.  ALSO, look around you and see if you are judging those around you because of something that our society has deemed as a certain way that person should act.  Just take a look and see what you find - let me know how it goes.

Release control and enjoy the ride

While on my way to Los Angeles today I was thinking about how nice it was to not have any pressure at the moment.  I didn’t have to hurry to get somewhere, I didn’t have work that I “should” be doing.  All I had to do was read my book and try to guess what song my iPod was going to play next.  It was really nice.  Usually I am one of those people who always like to have a game plan.  I don’t like secrets and my dad loves to tell me that he knows something that I don’t.  While I am still working on being able to relinquish some the control I have over my life and just let it happen, I am realizing that I may be better at it than I think.

While on the plane I wasn’t thinking about if my bag was going to make it to the correct carousel, I knew the baggage guys would do their job and I would have my clothes (and shoes) when I got there.  I didn’t worry about if the plane would make it okay, it’s the Pilots job to worry about that.  I find it amusing how calm I can feel when I don’t have control, while I tend to look for control in my own life.

I wonder what other things could happen if I choose to let life control me, rather that try to control my life.  I wish for you that you can feel the same feelings that I had today, of just know that everything was going to be okay.

time to be you

This happens to me all the time, and I am sure that you all can relate.  You hit the snooze one to many times and start your day in a rush.  You are in a hurry, thus making everyone on the road you are driving with too slow, or the wonderful place that makes your coffee too slow.  It happens to me regularly.  Today I tried something new, I woke up early and allowed some me time before I started my day.

Think about the last time you had time for yourself, other that the bathroom (which if you are a parent that may not even be alone time.) As a society we tend to be on the go all the time, and we forget how important it is to take time for ourselves.  I found time this morning, I woke up an hour early, but didn't get out of bed.  I laid in bed and watched a TV show that I like.  TV is a way for me to just zone out and be for awhile.  Other ways you can do this is reading, journaling, working out or one of another million ideas.  By taking this little bit of time that will help you regenerate your ability to stay calm, and enjoy your day will greatly improve.

I challenge you to start your day with some "me" time and see how it improves your day.  Use your "me" time to do whatever it is that you wish you had more time to do every day.  By making this a priority you will see change in your life, it may take awhile, and it may be so subtle that you don't realize it for a few weeks; but believe me it will work.

Let me know what you do for your "me" time and how it makes your day better.

today is the day that may change tomorrow... be ready for great things

How many times have you woken up in the morning and said that you were going to start something new, or make a change... I know I have a million times.  The issue is that I always manage to find a reason not to start.  I will say that I didn't get up in time, or i have too much to to, or worst of all; I will convince myself that I don't care if I get to it or not.  Like many of you I do want to make a change but it takes time, so here are some pointers that may help you make a change.

First of all, you have to remember that you are not perfect, you are you and wonderful just the way you are.  You will only have find that you can be successful when you want to make the change for the correct reasons... and you can be the only person who can determine what is right for you.

Second, give yourself some wiggle room.  For example, if you want to go from being a coach potato to working out everyday, you have to know that your body isn't ready for that.  Make your goal to go seven times a week, come up with a acceptable minimum and work on making that goal until you reach and sustain that, then take the next step to four days, and so on.

Finally, make sure that you are going after a goal one step at a time.  I can't go and get my doctorate without submitting the application, so my first goal should be to fill out the application.  Make your goal achievable so you can have success all along the way.

Making a change is never as easy as you would like it to be, but remember that today is the day that may change tomorrow... be ready for greatness.
